This whole notion didn’t really sink in until over the weekend when my hubby had 6 hours ALONE (that’s right, no baby and no wifey) to do whatever he wanted.
One of my best friends had her baby shower on Saturday and she said that kids were welcome. I told Chris that I would bring Landon with me, so he could have the afternoon to do whatever he wanted. He could get a workout in (in peace, with no interruptions), watch the college bowl games, take a nap…basically just chill out. (If you’re a parent, you know that afternoons like that are few and far between.)
When I walk in the door after the shower, my hubby was busy preparing dinner (this was not out of the norm, since he cooks about 90% of the time). I asked him how his peaceful, kid-and-wife-free afternoon was and he proceeded to tell me how many things he got done around the house. I had to do a major double-take (well, I actually yelled at him…playfully, of course!). I was so mad that he felt he had to do so many things around the house (he did A LOT people). I really, really wanted him to be able to sit and relax for a bit.
That is when I realized, our lazy weekends are no more. Even when we have a few free hours to ourselves, we still feel the need to use that time to get a few things crossed off of our to-do list (case in point: while Landon napped yesterday afternoon, I cleaned our frig from top to bottom). While I was super happy that things got done, I really wanted Chris to be able to chill out since he works so hard 24/7. Ah well, such is life now…right?!!!
I’ll leave you with a few photos of the baby shower Landon and I went to on Saturday. She is due in about 7 weeks with a baby girl…GET EXCITED!!
